His hair color is white and grey. Due to being in Africa, he has developed a fairly dark skin color. Personality: A calm and easy-going man. Years of studying and working around big cat species has given him an unusual ability, he has acquired that ability to great understand animal body language. This has enabled him to get very close to many dangerous animals. Though he has had close encounters before, he still remains both calm and even-tempered. Biography: Dereck Joubert is an award-winning filmmaker from Botswana who has been an Explorers-in-Residence for over four years. His mission is the conservation and understanding of the large predators and key African wildlife species that determine the course of all conservation in Africa. His coverage of unique predator behavior has resulted in 22 films, 10 books, six scientific papers, and many articles for National Geographic magazine. This body of work has resulted in five Emmys, a Peabody, the World Ecology Award, and the recent induction into the American Academy of Achievement. Recently however, he and his wife have taken an interest in dinosaurs...and in particular, theropods. Now, as well as trying to maintain the population of African big cats, he also aims to save abandoned and rare theropod dinosaurs. | |
